DoD Resource Managers – Time to Step Up!

Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center Washington, DC

Our 2013 ASMC National Capital Region PDI theme is:

DoD Resource Managers – Time to Step Up!

Thanks for making the 2013 ASMC Washington National Capital Region PDI Training Event a success.  All available presentations are being posted on the program page. Please take our Survey by clicking  on this link.

Our 2013 ASMC National Capital Region Professional Development Institute (PDI) has been successfully held for over 20 years. Our goal is to optimize our DoD enterprise education and learning, increase dialogue and networking, as well as enhance our fund-raising results for charities and scholarships.  The last two years our event has sold out, with over 750 government and industry professionals attending this worthwhile conference to learn, share insights, and help advance critical business outcomes in support of our warfighters.

PLEASE join us on Thursday March 21, 2013 at the Ronald Reagan Center in Washington D.C. for a terrific day of learning, dialogue, collaboration, networking, and certification.

The ASMC NCR PDI Committee is grateful for the support from DoD FM leadership as evidenced by our strong program agenda and  the overwhelming response to our upcoming training event.

Given the dire budget environment this year that may restrict training opportunities, we are asking each registrant’s cooperation with our campaign of  “If Sign Up, Please Show Up! “  Please view your registration as a valuable commitment and personal obligation that you will keep, or responsibly relinquish for a fellow colleague to utilize.

When we close registration, we will initiate a waitlist for folks who wish to attend and  will actively work to substitute registrants who find they are unable to attend.  There will be a streamlined process to notify our Registration Chair Wayne Whiten if you find you are unable to attend  - again please help us to ensure all training spaces are fully used and not wasted!

Our program is now finalized with a most distinguished group of keynote speakers and workshop presenters.  These include:

-       Opening Keynote USD-C Honorable Robert Hale, CDFM
-       Morning Keynote Honorable David Walker, Founder and CEO of the Comeback America Initiative and former Comptroller General of the U.S
-       Morning Keynote Honorable Michele Flournoy, former USD for Policy and Co-Founder/President for the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), a non-partisan think tank dedicated to developing strong, pragmatic and principled national security policies
-       Luncheon Keynote ADM Jonathan W Greenert, USN, Chief of Naval Operations (CNO)

Given the current budget realities -- that impact funding for government training -- our Chapter has amened our policy in 2013 to offer ASMC government members attendance for no cost at this training event. We are confident offering our government members the opportunity to receive valuable professional training and CPE credentials at no cost is a win/win for our Chapter membership and the DoD overall. This policy shift was unanimously approved (per our ASMC Washington Chapter By-Laws) by our Executive Board, and falls within both parameters set by Federal Regulation (5 C.F.R. 2635.204(g)) as well as precedent set by Federal training events that routinely exercise this policy (e.g. AGA FFS Summit 10 Jan 2013).

1.  ASMC National Capital Region (NCR) Professional Development Institute (PDI) is not a DoD-hosted event, but hosted by the ASMC Washington Chapter.

2.  NCR PDI meets the definition of a training conference - we do not partner with any entity of the DoD to monetarily sponsor this event.

3.  NCR PDI fulfills continuing professional education (CPE) requirements for DoD financial management (FM) professionals.

4.  No travel/TDY is required for those individuals located within the NCR.

5.  No motivational speakers are used in the program, nor have been used in the past.

6. No industry representatives speak at the event - solely government officials speak.

7.  No video conferencing is available, as it is cost prohibitive.

8.  The overwhelming benefits of this annual professional development, training, and networking event has set a precedent over the last decade.

9. The conference is held in a government building (Ronald Reagan Center, Washington DC) to minimize costs.

10. Our facility layout precludes large growth and thereby LIMITS attendees beyond 800 (well under 200 per service).

When and if we reach our Amphitheater attendance limit of 625 (as regulated by fire code) during the morning sessions, we have the capability to comfortably handle additional attendees.  Anyone that registers after this capacity limit has been reached, will be directed to the Polaris Room which is an overflow  theater style room with a live video stream.  These individuals will be identified by using a distinct badge.  The Volunteers will be available to escort personnel to the overflow room.

Overflow provisions may be required for the morning general sessions that are held in the Amphitheater!
